TONY HALE: Credit: Cullin Tobin for LEAN at Ignition. Los Angeles, CA, 2014.REVOLUTIONARY COMEDY AWARDS honoring Tony Hale
When: Festival Day 1: Wednesday, May 7 – 8:30 pm
Where: UC Irvine, Winifred Smith Hall
Show Info: Improv Revolution honors the revolutionary talents of comedy that have inspired them.  Last year we invited Jon Lovitz to come to our festival, but due to scheduling challenges, he came to UC Irvine a bit earlier.  We did enjoy a visit from the extremely funny comic Ben Gleib at our 2013 festival.  This year we honor Tony Hale with the Revolutionary Comedy Award – join us in celebrating his work and hearing his thoughts on the art and craft of comedy.
Tony Hale Biography:
Known best for his role as the socially awkward ‘Buster Bluth’ on the ground-breaking, Emmy Award-winning series Arrested Development, Tony Hale has appeared in a wide variety of critically acclaimed television programs and films throughout his career.  In 2013, he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Gary Walsh in HBO’s Emmy and SAG nominated political comedy, Veep.
While Arrested Development established his comedic abilities, Hale has demonstrated his adept dramatic skills in films like Steven Soderbergh’s, The Informant, where he portrayed lawyer James Epstein, Marc Foster’s Stranger Than Fiction, and Happythankyoumoreplease, for which he received rave reviews for his role as Malin Akerman’s dopey coworker ‘Sam’. Hale’s television credits include About a Boy, Community, Justified, Chuck, The Sopranos, and Andy Barker, P.I.
Hale grew up in Tallahassee, Florida where he attended The Young Actors Theatre.  He then continued on to study acting at The Barrow Group Theatre Company in New York. His big break came in 1999, when he gained recognition for his dance to “Mr. Roboto” in the popular television commercial for Volkswagen, which was later spoofed in an episode of Arrested Development.
In 2013, Hale co-starred Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in Paul Feig’s action-comedy The Heat. The film has gone on to make over $229 million worldwide.
This August, Hale will release Archibald’s Next Big Thing, a children’s book he co-authored with Tony Biaggnee under Boxing Clever Publishing.  In the book, Archibald is a newly-hatched chicken who is looking to find his place in the world.
Hale can currently be seen as Gary Walsh opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Vice President Selina Meyers in season 3 of Veep which airs Sundays, at 10:00pm ET/PT on HBO.
Hale currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.

We potentially will also have some additional special guests at this special presentation.

RAZOWSKY & CLIFFORD (two-person improvisation)
When: Festival Day 3: Friday, May 9 – 8:30 pm
Where: UC Irvine, The Little Theatre
Show Info:
RAZOWSKY & CLIFFORD is a two-person improv show that has become one of LA’s “must see” performances. David Razowsky (Spin City, The Weekenders) and Carrie Clifford (The Slammin’ Salmon, The Office) have performed their signature long form style at improv festivals around the globe, and perform regularly at iO West in Hollywood. They relish in the purist form of improv—starting with nothing. An audience member decides where to place two chairs for the first scene and they’re off and running. This random placement of two chairs dictates the entire performance, and becomes the spring board for a variety of characters and relationships. (on Twitter: @RazandCliff)
